Afternoon Tea in Belgravia

My sister and I are passionate tea drinkers and once or twice a year we go to Afternoon Tea at one of the luxury hotels in London.

This time around it was the turn of The Goring hotel in Belgravia.

At the time of writing it is the holder of the British Tea Guild Council's top London Afternoon tea award and the award of excellence and we weren't disappointed.

Supposedly, it was The Duchess of Bedford who invented the whole concept of having afternon tea right there in the hotel back in the 1800s.  Good for you Duchess!

The 5 star Goring hotel had an elegant and relaxed feel, set in a beautiful lounge with soft heritage leather chairs and golden lamp light....

The china was beautiful and we both wished we could take the tea cups home...

Along with a selection of sandwiches and pastries we selected the 'Goring Afternoon tea' which was a blend of assam and darjeeling...
and the 'Fortnum and Mason's Royal tea', a blend of assam and ceylon.

After tea we visited the garden which had a lovely 1920s croquet lawn...

We ended the day with a trip to Fortnum and Masons...

I purchased some chai tea and some ceylon tea and assam tea.  Now I can brew my very own  'Royal Blend' at home!

The two girls thoroughly enjoyed their trip too getting up to mischief...

Here they are greeting a statue of Jeremy Goring who founded the hotel in 1910...

To read more about the little girl dolls, they have their very own website:

Lavender Fields

'By farmland and fields where lavenders sway...
Honey bees gather and butterflies play...
Where laughter and love is all that you know...
There lives a young girl named Verity Hope.'

This pretty little embroidery is perfect for embroidering in a 6" hoop.

It uses very basic embroidery stitches, extra long stitch and short stitch.

It is very quick and easy and ideal for a novice or those more experienced needleworkers wishing to do quick, relaxing armchair project.

It is stitched using six strands of embroidery thread and cotton perle no. 5 in order to create a puffy textured effect. This of course can be customised to your own liking.

The pattern is available for instant download from these Etsy shops:

VERITY HOPE'S WARDROBE

VERITY HOPE'S WARDROBE

YOU WILL NEED:
1. Fabric - I used a linen/cotton blend. Fabrics that have a bit of weight hang nicely.
You will need to cut out: 2 x back, 2 x front, 2 x frills
Amount: 2.75 cm (3 yards) - based on fabric width 90-92 cm (35-36’)
With wider fabrics you can use slightly less. Lay pattern pieces out before buying so you can see how your templates will fit.
2. Elastic
3. Sewing machine (I use a beautiful 80 year old hand-crank machine).
4. Thread, scissors.

Perfect for summaer days...

And goes hand in hand with...
